Cold Spring Mountaineering Training Hike (for strong hikers)
Details
This winter hike is designed as a mountaineering-style conditioning day, focused on building endurance, elevation gain tolerance, and comfort moving efficiently in cold conditions.
Join us for a demanding loop that emphasises steady pacing, sustained climbs, and rugged terrain—perfect preparation for winter ascents and alpine objectives.
We’ll meet at the Washburn Trailhead in Cold Spring at 9:30 AM. The hike will be led by Jason who is an experienced mountaineer. We will hike 11-12 miles and approximately 4,600 ft of elevation gain. Steep climbs, some rocky scrambles, and winter conditions likely. Be sure to bring micro spikes.
Here is the trail we are following:

Expect a training-focused day: layered clothing, traction devices if conditions warrant, and a mindset geared toward efficiency and resilience rather than speed. This is ideal for anyone preparing for mountaineering, alpine climbs, or big vertical days.
