What we’re about
This is a group to get together for a meal, see a movie, and meet new people. We were called "Innaloo Cinema and Varsity Burger" but we've branched out!
We meet for chat before the movie, usually going for somewhere within walking distance with casual dining available. The cinemas we go to are a bit of a mix, but more often closer to the city than further out.
All ages are welcome and feel free to bring a friend, although they will have the best experience if they sign up for a free Meetup account.
We cover all genres - blockbuster action, horror, animated, indie, and foreign festival films. New and old. So if you don't see anything that catches your fancy right away just stay tuned. To get notified about new events you can join the group, then enable "new event announcements" and "event reminders" here. Recently the new owners of the Meetup platform have been pushing the paid "Meetup+" membership, but you can just ignore these requests and continue to sign up as a free user to access the group.
There's also a tentative list of upcoming events here. I go to see hundreds of films every year, and I know I'm not the only one, so drop a post in the group if you want to know if anyone else is interested in seeing a particular film. And feel free to message me with requests for events, questions, suggestions, or if you're just not sure if the group is for you (but it is!)

See all- Grill'd + The Ballad of Wallis Island at LeedervilleGrill'd Leederville, Leederville
Please join me this Saturday for the eccentric British comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island, from the director of Cuban Fury. Tickets for the 6:50pm session are available here or at the box office. We'll meet down the road at Grill'd Leederville at 5:45pm for a chat and then head over to the cinema at 6:30pm.
The Ballad of Wallis Island follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island and dreams of getting his favorite musical duo, McGwyer Mortimer (Tom Basden & Carey Mulligan) back together. His fantasy turns into reality when the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island. Soon old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig.
"This is a fish-out-of-water, odd couple, art and romance dramedy that reminds me of terrific television series such as Hamish Macbeth (1995-97) and Northern Exposure (1990-95). It is charming throughout, humorous and moving." -- Stephen Romei, The Australian.
"It’s clear that [writers & stars] Basden, Key and director Griffiths have worked together for years, their rapport coming across the screen with an affable ease." -- Alfred Castaneda, Shade Studios.
Anyone and everyone are welcome - so don't be shy if you haven't met any of us before. We all came to Meetup to meet new people! And if you've got any questions please leave a comment or feel free to shoot me a message. Please also remember to keep your RSVP up to date.

When his evil nemesis resurfaces and Willa goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her as both father and daughter battle the consequences of their pasts.
"Anderson's first bona fide action movie defies any 1:1 comparison to other films. The closest way to describe it would be Taken in the style of Uncut Gems." -- Fred Topel, United Press International.
"For Anderson, it’s as definitive an artist’s statement as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though he’s looking resolutely forward where his contemporary looked back." -- Clarisse Loughrey, Independent (UK).

- Grill'd + Somebody to Love at LeedervilleGrill'd Leederville, Leederville
Please join me for the new Italian hit comedy Somebody to Love (aka Follemente/Madly), from the veteran of quirky premises Paolo Genovese (Perfect Strangers). We'll meet down the road at Grill'd Leederville at 5:00pm for a chat and a bite before heading over to the cinema. Tickets for the 6:10pm session are available here or at the box office.
How well do we really know ourselves when we make a decision? What if there were multiple versions of ourselves, each with its own opinion? Madly is a delightful romantic comedy that goes beyond appearances, diving into the minds of the two main characters, Piero and Lara, and revealing their most hidden thoughts and the inner battles that we all face.
"A film about communication and how difficult it is to speak and truly say what you think, and whether it's right to say it and when. And also how scary it is to not know how the other person is receiving what you're saying and whether they understand or not. Some really, really funny moments, I laughed a lot." -- dema23, Letterboxd user.
"FolleMente is a delightful comedy, with a strong ensemble cast. It could be described as the Italian Inside Out, with actors and actresses who play the "Thoughts" of the two protagonists, who are on their first date. The contrast between man and woman and the genuine sincerity of the Thoughts create some very entertaining interludes, thanks primarily to the individual actors who play them." -- Giulio, Letterboxd user.
