SESSION DETAILS

When users (including you!) struggle to understand how to use their Excel-based tools, data quality can become compromised by design. The solution: design it for data quality.

In this session, we will discuss how to use color, organize the space on the spreadsheet, and more to create an interface that gives users confidence, enhances data quality, and even helps the developer (you!). This is important whether or not you share your tools with others.

We will go over Office themes, cell styles and table formatting. Layout, validations, branding, and color theory will also be included. All with accessibility in mind, of course!

It’s a lot to cover in 30 minutes, so expect mostly high-level concepts and some examples to get you started in designing interfaces with “you-sers” in mind.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Tanya has over 30 years of experience as a frustrated user of technology. For 15 years, she has been part of the solution, advocating for users and championing accessibility, design, and data quality. She has designed tools to automate tedious error-prone manual processes that improve the quality of life for the user and quality of data for the organization.

Her favorite KPI? Automating a fiscal-year-end accrual process, reducing hours spent by 80%, which allowed the primary user to have dinner with his wife on their anniversary for the first time in decades because he wasn’t working overtime on the closing transactions on September 30th. Automation is about creating capacity for the things that matter, at work and at home. Capacity = joy and bringing joy is her life’s work.
