Could William Shakespeare read and write?

The only undisputed examples of William Shakespeare's handwriting are a few signatures. Some people are saying that William Shakespeare did not write any of the plays attributed to him, and that he was merely a front man. We shall be meeting at the Try Dowr, Wetherspoon, Truro, Table 81 to discuss this question. All opinions are welcome. A free drink will be offered by the host to all who attend.
