The star is the Cathedral Market, where towering Gothic spires frame rows of wooden stalls selling mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and handmade ornaments. For something whimsical, head to Heinzel’s Winter Fairytale at Heumarkt and Alter Markt—Cologne’s largest market, themed around mischievous gnomes, complete with an ice rink, Ferris wheel, and collectible gnome mugs. The elegant Market of Angels at Neumarkt dazzles with angelic decorations and sparkling wine, while Nikolausdorf at Rudolfplatz offers cozy, traditional vibes with live music and reindeer sightings. All markets are free to enter, open daily from 11:00 AM, and best explored by foot.
