ANF Chapter - December Hike to Rock City – Rt 948
Details
Join us for a late fall hike traveling north from the Rt 948 trailhead up the lovely Cherry Run valley to an impressive rock city. We’ll be able to spend some time relaxing or playing in the rock city and then head back to the trailhead or continue on to the Tionesta Scenic Area.
Our meeting time is 10 AM at the Rt 948 Cherry Run Trailhead. The Trailhead is located about 3 miles SE of the intersection of Rt 666 and Rt 948. Look for the sign to tell you to turn off Rt 948 to get to the NCT trail head, GPS coordinates 41.63448 -78.99768. (These coords can be put in the Google Map search engine.) You can also follow this link, https://arcg.is/1euX9e , to the spot on the NCTA interactive map or https://bit.ly/42OBmaI on Google Maps.
It is about 4.8 miles to go to the rock city and back or 10.2 miles to go through the Tionesta Scenic Area to FR 133E and back. We’ll also stop at the Cherry Run Shelter. The length of the hike can be adjusted based on the desires of the participants.
Please come prepared for the hike dressed in appropriate layers for the weather, and carrying your own food and water. Friendly dogs are welcome. We hope to see you down the trail.
