North Shore Bicycling For Fun

Hopefully the continuation of nice weather days. So let’s ride from the north end of the Marsh trail into Newburyport across the bridge onto the Clipper City trail to Joppa Flats by way of the city center. We will stop at the park headquarters for restroom needs. From there we will go out to Plum Island by way of the road where we will take a break and lunch or snack. Be sure to bring water. We will return on the Clipper city trail passed the railway station, then back over the bridge and onto the Marsh trail to the beginning.

Bike helmets are mandatory when riding with us!

IMPORTANT: Be sure your bike is in good working order! Tires should be in good shape and pumped up, gears should shift smoothly, and your brakes should be properly adjusted. If possible, pack a spare tube in case of a flat. A hand pump or CO2 inflator is also desireable, though not absolutely necessary, as many riders will already have them.

This is my eleventh annual event for this ride!

East Bay Bike Path: Rhode Island's best-known rail-trail, the Bicycle Path hugs the shores of Narragansett Bay, from Bristol in the south and north to India Point Park in Providence. The 14-mile paved path accommodates a wide variety of users.
The trail takes you through an alternating landscape of stunning natural areas, as well as more urban enclaves. Spur trails lead to several parks and conservation areas, including Colt State Park in Bristol, Burr's Hill Park in Warren and Veterans Memorial Park and Haines Memorial State Park in Barrington.
We will meet at 11:00 am at the first parking area for Veterans Memorial Parkway. TRAVELING EAST ON I-195, TAKE THE RIVERSIDE EXIT. Should the first parking area be full, I will go to the second lot. Look for my white Toyota or the meetup sign.

We will eat lunch on our own. Then we will browse some of the shops in the downtown area.
We will plan on leaving Bristol around 3:00 pm, to head back to E Providence.

For the bike ride you should dress in layers. Bring plenty of fluids and snacks. Sun lotion, helmets, etc. Also, it’s a good idea to have a spare tire in the chance you get a flat on the path.

Though this group will make every attempt to follow CDC guidelines on Covid-19, which includes social distancing and the use of masks, exposure to the virus is possible while participating in this event. Monday Evening - E-Bike Brigade Road Cycling the Newburys!

Calling all e-bike riders for some scenic cycling on mostly back roads of Newburyport, Newbury, and West Newbury. Take advantage of the power of your e-bike to master the rolling hills that we will encounter. Weather looks like to be an improvement from Sunday's forecast with temps on Monday evening hovering around 58 degrees.

Our 18.9-mile ride will take us from Newburyport's South End through Newbury and West Newbury along mostly country roads. We will pass farms, lakes, salt marshes, horse stables and more before returning via Route 1A (aka High Street) to our starting point.

There are no restrooms along this route. However, there are restrooms available before and after the ride in the Tannery Marketplace.

Elevation : +642 ft/-648 ft
Pace: 12-16 mph

Rules of the Road:

• MAX speed is 16mph (descents tend to be faster!)
• Leave a bike-length gap behind the rider ahead of you
• Announce if you are passing a rider, and pass ONLY on the left
• When riding on a road with a bike lane, stay INSIDE the bike lane
• When riding on backroads, ride NO MORE than two abreast, and hug the inside shoulder
• On narrow roads with sharp corners, stay SINGLE FILE on the corners
• If you hear "CAR BACK!" hug the right shoulder and stay single file until the car passes
• Helmets; REAR LIGHTS; and bright, neon, or reflector clothing tops are mandatory for ALL riders!
• Front lights are advisable for the ride home
