Beginner Ukulele Class - 2024 (April start )

Details

This is THE course if you have just received a new uke for Christmas or want to join the growing number of those enjoying this little instrument

This is a 7-lesson course on Tuesdays starting 30th April 2024 thence weekly. Each class is 2-hours duration, 7pm-9pm - note this is 14 hours of face to face classes. Most Uke classes out these are only 10 hours OR LESS!!

Pre-requisite – bring your own ukulele, or let me know when booking you need to borrow one. Loan uke numbers are limited, so get in early.

All material works for soprano, concert and tenor ukulele, ned to either High G (re-entrant) or Low G (linear). This course does not suit a learner of baritone ukulele. If buying new, we recommend either concert or tenor sizes for this class, but if you already have a soprano just come along as well and don't buy a new one -- yet.

We recommend you try Turramurra Music, Mall Music (Macquarie) or Gladesville Guitar Factory, to buy your ukulele – spend as much as you can afford and try to ensure they sell you one that will stay in tune!

Not essential, but if you have attended a beginner workshop or know a couple of things about this instrument already this course is great revision and will sort out some bad habits and we will spend considerably more time in teaching the fundamentals. It is structured and aims to provide you with the ideal platform to go on to a local ukulele club with confidence or take a more advanced course later on. We do expect you to put in a little practice between lessons on this one J

Reading music is not essential, but is an advantage; we will cover all you need on the theory front, (and yes there is some, but we make it meaningful and ukulele focused - its all about patterns).

Singing is not essential, but highly encouraged – even shower-singing.

We cover a lot! Be prepared.

Starting at the very beginning, learn a bit of history, ukuleles sizes, how to hold, how to sit/stand, names of strings, proper strumming technique using both thumb and fingers. Basic finger picking, and basic strumming patterns (more than 30). Enough chord shapes to be able to play literally 1000s of songs. Over a dozen songs in detail in the repertoire, including lullabies, pop songs, standards and a couple of songs of your choosing (if technically possible). Practice tips, care and maintenance.

You get stacks of hand-outs covering technique, chords and repertoire. Each week a short video recap is posted to a private video list so you can follow along with the material in the comfort of your our home

Total course fee $200, payable in advance here online via Pay Pal, or in cash on the night. If paying on the night please send the organiser a note to RSVP and for banking details for a $50 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot.
