North Texas River Runners

North Texas River Runners is trying again to have its monthly get-together for its members -- The NTRR Hangout. Members who have whitewater experience or who have taken: Basic Kayaking class, the ACC River School, ACC Whitewater School or their equivalent are invited to join other members for a long weekend of paddling. While previous whitewater experience is not required, appropriate gear is. (Whitewater capable boat w skirt and float bags). There is some club equipment available to borrow on a first come first served basis.

The Hangout is not a class, but offers the chance to get to know other members better, knock a little rust off of skills if you have been off the water for a while and maybe pick up some tips from more experienced members. (You do have to be a current member of NTRR/ACC in good standing). We do ask paddlers to follow paddle safety rules and to wear a PFD, an approved helmet and have float bags in their boat. The Hangout for July will be Friday July 25 through Sunday July 27. The main group will be camping at San Marcos River Retreat. Tent camping is $10 per night per person. RV hookups are available but do fill up quickly some weekends. San Marcos River Retreat has a no alcohol policy and strives to maintain a family atmosphere. Because of these restrictions, some prefer to camp elsewhere, such as Spencer Canoes. For those that are not into camping, San Marcos has a variety of hotels, B&B's and motels. If you are planning to stay at the River Retreat contact Steve Ford at 817-692-6451 so space can be reserved. If you plan to paddle and stay elsewhere, contact Steve. Members are welcome to drop in for a day or two if they find three days are too much.

One thing to remember is that summertime in San Marcos means tubers. If you wish to paddle Rio Vista, we recommend early starts.

Come get your ROLL on! Come practice your rolling and rescue skills now back at the indoor pool at Kirby Creek Natatorium for the winter. Let us know if you need to borrow a boat for this (no later than Thursday) or bring your own. Life vest (PFD) required. Load in at 6PM, Paddles wet at 6:30. Must be out of the building by 9PM.

Paid up members of the North Texas River Runners (or any other chapter of the Arkansas Canoe Club) may attend for free and have free use of any loaner equipment. Non members are welcome to attend but must pay a $12.00 donation fee to the NTRR.
