NPT Porcupine Mountain State Park, MI., Winter Cabin Camping, Skiing and Snowshoeing Adventure , Feb 16th-18th
Join us at the Gitche Gumee Cabin on Monday Feb. 16th through Wednesday Feb. 18th. Gitche Gumee Cabin is on Hwy 107 before the Porcupine State Park entrance. Lake Superior is on the right the cabin is on the left. Reports say the ice volcanos are spectacular this year along the shoreline. Snowshoeing is great just outside the cabin door. We can also snowshoe or ski on trails a short distance up the road to trails & beautiful views. The car parking is a short walk from the cabin.
Everyone, bring your own lunches and drinks. We have planned suppers & breakfasts. Cost for the cabin is split between the attendees Cabin total is $226.00 plus some shared food costs.
We are planning on snow shoeing, weather permitting classic skiing.
If you have a favorite game to play in the evening, please bring it.
Playing games and sharing stories is always fun in the glow of the lanterns and the warmth of the wood stove.
The wood for heat and cooking is provided by the park.
The cabin is equipped with 8 single bunks & mattresses. Bring your own blankets, sleeping bags and pillow.
The outhouse is a short walk from the cabin. (We do have seat warmers)
BTW Cell phone coverage is marginal.
We would like to do as much communicating as possible before the trip up.
Directions to location:
The Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park, 15 miles west of Ontonagon, MI. We plan to car pool or caravan up. We check in at the park ranger station or the visitor center.
