What we’re about
Not Your Average Social Club is the ultimate meetup group for adventure seekers, community explorers, and creative individuals that prefer no drama and building new friendships!
Join us as we uncover hidden gems and venture into the heart of our communities through movies, arts & entertainment, eco-conscious activities, team trivia, museums, mall/trail walking, and more. Our group is open to men, women, couples, singles, people of all ages over 21 (although, there will be family friendly events if there is interest!) The main rules are only to be kind to one another and we'll avoid the discussions of politics and religion. Admittedly in today's world this can be difficult, but this group is created to provide a judgment-free, safe space zone.
From social networking and brainstorming sessions to promoting cooperation and collaboration, we believe in fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. Join us for delicious meals, refreshing drinks, interactive games, and engaging discussions that encourage fun, healthy living. Unleash your higher self, embrace your inner nerd, learn social dancing, and embark on day trips and other exciting events with like-minded individuals. We are truly encouraging the participation of many to come up with free and low cost opportunities to spend time with others who want to make new friends.
Let's create unforgettable memories together!
The small print:
- While the location shows Gurnee, IL, events will be scheduled within about a 45 minute drive radius from Gurnee, unless it's a special event.
- Please don't let the location keep you from joining the group to get our event notices!
- For many of the events an RSVP won't be required, but is always appreciated.
- If you RSVP and change your mind or can't make it, please change your intention on the event page. It's polite to the others in the group and the venue for the event.
- Depending on the event, there could be restrictions to the number of people who can attend. A waitlist will always be an option. So PLEASE CHANGE YOUR RSVP IF YOU CAN'T ATTEND.
- I've had to add the rule that no one leaves an event before their check is paid. If you leave or put your money down on the table and leave, I will ban you from future involvement. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- If you use two profiles to sign up for events or are a consistent no-show at events, you will be banned from future involvement. I am not taking attendance, but reviewing the list of people who RSVP for frequent abuse of this rule.
- Remember to:
- Be KIND
- No DRAMA
- Have FUN

Volunteer - Northern Illinois Food Bank - food sort & pack -Lake Forest
Northern Illinois Food Bank, 13950 Business Center Drive, Green Oaks Business Center, Lake Forest, IL, USThis is a volunteer opportunity to sort and pack food, as a team, for the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) at the warehouse in Lake Forest.
The volunteer time slot is from 9:00 - 11:30am, but you need to be there 15 minutes before for signing in and getting instructions. We will gather in the lobby entrance at 8:45. This activity requires standing and moving around sorting tables for 2-1/2 hours and lifting up to 10 pounds. If people can lift and move heavier boxes, that is helpful. Wear clothing appropriate for working in a warehouse. Shoes must be closed-toed shoes - no crocs, sandals, or medical boots allowed.
Your email address, first and last name are required for volunteering. You can join the team directly through the link below or you can direct message me that info and I can add you to the system. Because this is a non-profit organization, they are required to track volunteer time. There are waivers they need competed. It is preferred that you do this online, but it can be done when you check in.
NIFB requires our registrations to be on our team roster by 10/25/25, or they automatically return the open slots to the general volunteer pool.
Please RSVP to this event, but also join the volunteer team for the NIBF site.
Join the teamPlease be mindful that this organization relies on volunteers to show up when they take one of the reservation spots. Please let me know if you have any questions.
After the event, if anyone is interested, we can stop a place nearby to get some lunch together.
