About us
Welcome to Note Lovers - Live Music Listening in Ottawa!
This is a group where we welcome you to join us listening to good music here in town. We love local small venues, the kind of place we can chat together before the show. The kind of place we can meet the musicians. Most of the music is jazz, blues, and folk. But now and then some tango, flamenco, rock and musicals. If you are up on Sunday mornings, we do like a classical collection on the Quebec side so check that out. Festivals in summer.
Please buy tickets early when you want to see a show. Small venues with great musicians sell out! Out of courtesy for those on the wait-list, always cancel your RSVP if you are not coming.
I ask that you have a real portrait photo on your MeetUp profile because at these events we really are looking for you. Please look for me, sit with the group, and get to know others who like to listen to live music!
Good times!

Brad Mehldau, at Saint Brigid's in Ottawa
Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts, 310 St. Patrick St. (Cumberland St. entrance), Ottawa, ON, CAHey, Note Lovers, it’s Carolyn here. Come join us for an evening with one of the most thoughtful and lyrical voices in modern jazz piano — Brad Mehldau.
Mehldau’s playing is something special: deeply introspective, harmonically rich, and full of surprising twists. He blends jazz improvisation with classical romanticism and reinvents songs by artists like The Beatles, Paul Simon, and Nick Drake, alongside his own beautiful compositions. Many critics consider him the most influential jazz pianist of the last couple of decades.
This performance takes place at the lovely Saint Brigid's Centre for the Arts, an intimate space that should be perfect for hearing every detail of his touch at the piano.Date: Wednesday May 6, 2026

Note: Brad Mehldau is touring. He is also performing in a duo in Montreal with Kirill Gerstein (more of a classical fusion evening) the following evening May 7th. That show was announced months earlier. *I'm going to both* Because he is that good.

Matt Lorenz, The Suitcase Junket, Blues Guitar - at the Red Bird!

“A living, breathing, throat-singing, road-tested, avant-garde, one-man-band who is in a state of perpetual motion… gutsy, fuzzed-out, groove-laden psych rock.” – NPR
“Bluesy guitar riffs, tenacious melodies and a singing voice both weathered and nimble. You don’t need to witness his physics-defying performance to be captivated; the music stands on its own… astonishing.” –WBUR Boston
The Suitcase Junket — the touring project of the artist Matt Lorenz — developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in imagery, sound, and staging. Solitary in thrift and self-reliance. NPR calls Lorenz a “master of musical imagination.” What instruments he requires, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform, he performs alone. The spectacle of the one-man show bears comparison to legends of showmanship, brilliance, madness, and invention. While audiences are captivated by that solitary form and the show itself, Lorenz, who homesteads in Western Massachusetts, is most serious about the songs. The world he writes into existence is crowded with characters, narratives, voices, imagery, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. Lorenz’ most recent album The End is New was released at Renew Records / BMG. He is in the studio this winter, recording toward a new release. from redbirdlive more and photo credit here
