A few recommendations for the trail:
-Grippy, closed-toe shoes recommended (it’s MUDDY+ slippery)
-hiking pools/walking stick
-1–2 liters of water
-Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
-Bug spray
-Snacks or lunch for the falls
-towel or swimsuit if you want to rinse off in the waterfall
Cultural Note & Permits:
The trail crosses the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi’s watershed lands and passes the adjacent old summer hunting lodge of King Kamehameha III, a sacred site. Also, “lulu” in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi can mean calm, peace, shelter, and “māhū” refers to those who embody both the feminine and masculine.Alex has the group permit covered — all you need for the day is your essentials and your aloha. Looking forward to hiking together!
