California Writers Club members write novels, short stories, screenplays, poetry, nonfiction articles, books, and more. Established in 1909, our mission is to educate writers of all genres and levels of expertise in the craft and marketing of their work.
The Orange County chapter is one of the largest and most active branches in the state. General meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month and feature a presentation by a publishing industry expert.

Come enjoy the original writings from heartfelt to humorous to mesmerizing to mysterious, discover kindred spirits among OC's finest writing community.
In January, our featured speaker format will return as the CWC Orange County chapter continues to provide education, inspiration, and motivation to local writers. But in the spirit of the holiday season, we take the time to get to know each other just a little better this month and share some written gems. Come join us!

He’s the author of the best-selling Bruno Johnson crime series, the Dave Beckett, Bone Detective series, and the Misadventures of Imogene Taylor series as well as several standalone titles.

■ 9:30am - 11:00am Guest SpeakerDr. Kate Gale is Publisher, Co-Founder, and Managing Editor of Red Hen Press and the Editor of the Los Angeles Review. She teaches Poetry at Chapman University. She is the author of seven books of poetry, including THE LONELIEST GIRL, THE GOLDILOCKS ZONE, and ECHO LIGHT. Her debut novel, UNDER A NEON SUN, debuted in April 2024. Her memoir, SWIMMING THE MILKY WAY, is forthcoming with Zando.
Kate has also written six librettos, including Rio de Sangre, a libretto for an opera with composer Don Davis, which had its world premiere in October 2010 at the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee, WI. She speaks on independent publishing around the U.S. at schools like USC, Columbia, and Oxford University. Her operas in process include The Web Opera and a piece centered on Che Guevara, featuring Cuban composer Armando Bayolo.

A graduate of Université Côte d’Azur Law School and The George Washington University Law School, she worked as a criminal attorney for the California Attorney General’s Office. Her debut novel was praised for its “powerful, complex, and compelling mystery” with a “unique French twist.”
She is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and International Thriller Writers. She lives in Southern California with her family, along the coast of San Diego County, which serves as the backdrop for her Suddenly French Mystery series.
