❄️ Winter Hike: Frozen Falls & Fireside Social
Details
Experience the winter wonderland at Hilton Falls! In the winter, the waterfall often freezes into stunning ice formations, and the surrounding mill ruins look like something out of a snow globe.
We’ll hike through the snow-dusted cedar forests, stop to look at the frozen reservoir and head to the falls. The best part? We’ll take a break at the outdoor wood-burning fire near the falls to warm up.
Winter Gear Checklist
- Traction is key: I highly recommend bringing microspikes or icers (like Yaktrax). The stairs down to the falls can be very slippery.
- Footwear: Waterproof, insulated hiking boots.
- Layers: Avoid cotton. Wear moisture-wicking base layers, a fleece, and a windproof outer shell.
- Warmth: Hat, gloves, and perhaps a thermos with a hot drink for our fireside break.
- Snacks: Bring some marshmallows or a snack to enjoy by the fire!
Good to know
- Pace: We will keep a steady but comfortable pace. Winter hiking takes a bit more effort, so we’ll move at a speed that keeps everyone warm without leaving anyone behind.
- Weather Policy: If there is a blizzard or extreme "feels like" temperatures below -20°C, we will reschedule. Check this page the morning of the hike.
Let’s embrace winter and enjoy the fresh air! ❄️
