Details
If you are new to my hikes you have to message or email me before you can register. Priority on my hikes will be given to those who attend the hikes or who cancel their reservation at least 24 hours ahead of time.
The Forest Resource Center has 9 miles of marked trails and contains 900 acres. There are 8 trails less than I mile and the yellow trail, 5.4 miles. The Center started as a Tree Nursery that grows seedlings for reforestation across NJ. There is an Interpretive Center and learning stations with informational kiosks on environmental topics throughout the center. Some trails feature interpretive signs which identify trees and shrubs or tell the features and local history of the area. Some kiosks have talking trees at these kiosks ,the visitor can push a button and learn more about the featured topic.
Since this is a scouting hike the route could change. We begin on the yellow trail and hike a short loop back to parking lot... Next we continue on the yellow trail to the end. We then reverse directions and continue around the second yellow loop back to parking lot for lunch break. After lunch we hike the white ,red, purple, black and finish on the blue. The blue trail is very scenic as it follows a tributary of Toms Rivers before it loops back to parking lot. Bring water, lunch and snacks. The hike will be 9---10 miles at a moderate pace.(3 MPH) .There are picnic tables and porta-potties in the parking lot. Questions contact Al D. email asilviod888@yahoo.com. Before leaving the house check the comments section for cancellations. If hike is cancelled, it will be posted by 6AM on day of event.
