Autumn hike on the hills of Sourland Mountain Preserve

Details
We'll do about 6 miles on the rocky trails of Sourland Mountain. The early part of this hike climbs about 400 feet, weaving around some of New Jersey's best rocks. After that, the trail becomes a relatively easy stroll (with lots of smaller rocks thrown in). Moderate pace on the climb, brisk pace after that. Our total elevation gain will be close to 600 feet.
Hiking poles and sturdy boots are a good idea. Bring plenty to drink, some snacks and lunch. This hike takes 3 to 3.5 hours, so we'll stop somewhere along the way for lunch. Our route will include the Devils Half Acre, Tributary, and Maple Flats Trail Loop. And keep your eyes open for whale rock.
Be sure to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to sign in and hear the safety talk. There is a port-a-john at the parking area.
OCSJ members only.
