12 pm – 2:30 pm
Manhattan
How to Find Us: Meet in front of or inside Yura sandwich shop, 1350 Madison Ave (southwest corner E 95 St). Closest subway is at E 96 St and Lexington Ave where the 6 train stops. The walk ends steps from the same station. Toilets are available in the New York Public Library branch at 112 E 96 St (between Park and Lexington avenues).
Limited to 25 walkers. $5 for non-members of the Outdoors Club.
NOTE: This is the second part of a walk that explores Carnegie Hill, one of the most elegant and quiet neighborhoods in Manhattan. We will view Gilded Age mansions and brownstones, the surviving section of a 19th century armory, stately apartment houses, a synagogue and a mosque. This northern part of Carnegie Hill also includes a stunning block with exceptionally beautiful row houses. The walk covers only about two miles, but there’s so much to see that we’ll take a 30-minute break for a rest and lunch (bring your own) in Central Park.
