History Pub: A Man Called York @ Edgefield

Did you know there was an enslaved man on the Lewis & Clark Expedition? His name was York. (You may have seen the statue of him that was on top of Mt. Tabor for a while in 2021, until it was unfortunately vandalized and torn down.)

At this History Pub, we'll learn all about York — his experiences during the expedition, his life before and after, and his place within national African American history. The presenter is Zachary Stocks of Oregon Black Pioneers, who was also a former park ranger at Lewis & Clark National Historical Park. You can learn more about the event and speaker here.

Care to join us?

• Get your ticket ahead of time before it quite possibly sells out. (Tickets are $5.)
• Let's meet up outside Blackberry Hall @ McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale just before 6 so we can say hello before they open the doors, grab seats together, get a drink/snack, and chat a bit before the presentation starts at 7. (If you can't get there by 6, but can before 7, that's okay - just let us know and we'll do our best to save a seat for you with the group.)
• Find Kristina (I'll wear a ridiculous crown to make it easier) and say hi.
• After the History Pub event, folks could go to a nearby bar/restaurant to socialize more.
