Don't have plans for Valentine's Day? Now you do! Come get a little dirty and share your love for nature with like-minded single folks. Join us for an event with Portland Parks & Rec to help improve wildlife habitat, water quality, etc. at the epic Forest Park.

What to expect

  • We'll be removing English ivy and other invasive plants. (We might also plant native trees/shrubs, mulch plants, or pick up litter, depending on what they need most this time of year.)
  • Tools, training and gloves will be provided, and you don’t need any prior experience or certain level of strength or anything.
  • This event will happen rain or shine.
  • We'll be volunteering from 9-12. Let's meet at 8:45 so we can all say hello.
  • Some of us may grab lunch after volunteering. (This is totally optional.)

RSVP + register
For this event, you need to register (as an individual) here: https://volunteer.portland.gov/need/detail/?need_id=1181209 It may fill up, so don't wait to register if you want to go.

Things you may want to bring / wear

  • Clothes that will keep you comfortable if it rains (avoid cotton/jeans if you can) and that you don’t mind getting dirty
  • Sturdy footwear that can get wet/dirty
  • Rain jacket
  • Hat
  • Water bottle
  • Change of clothes/shoes for afterwards, if you’d like

Have to cancel?
If you register and later have to cancel, please update both your RSVP here on Meetup AND in your https://volunteer.portland.gov/user/responses/ account. That way, someone else can take your spot.

Housekeeping

  • Please keep your RSVP up to date and check in with Kristina when you arrive so you don't get marked as a no-show. We regularly remove people with 2+ no-shows from the group.
  • Make sure to follow the Community Rules in this group's About section. These include no harassing or aggressive behavior, no messaging people you haven't met, and being respectful and honest. If anyone violates these rules or makes you feel uncomfortable, please let the event host (like Kristina) know or reach out to another group organizer (like Brenda, Max, Kevin, Cory or Erin).
  • Interested in hosting an event? Please reach out to me/Kristina. I'm at maximum capacity for hosting, but I'd love to support more organizers posting more events :-)

Tips for making a connection at/after the event

  • If you meet someone you'd like to get to know more outside of the Meetup (romantically or platonically), give them your phone number, so the ball's in their court to text you later if they're also interested. You can do this in person, or via a Meetup message if their settings allow you to message them.
  • Check your privacy/messaging settings to see if they're how you want them. You can set it to only allow group organizers to message you, or to let all members of your groups message you.
