Understanding yourself through Cognitive Functions

Details
Lets talk about our personal Cognitive Functions and consider how they manifest themselves for each of us and help us understand more about ourselves - both our strengths and our weaknesses!
The cognitive function model is the basis of MBTI, describing the different ways people can 1. PERCEIVE (i.e. information, the environment) and 2. JUDGE (make decisions).
Here is a very short basic video describing the 8 possible functions (each type will have a preference for 4 of them under the model I prefer):

Your MBTI type is actually a shorthand code for your Cognitive Function stack, which comprises of 4 functions (2 extraverted and 2 introverted) stacked in order of strength.
e.g. an ENFJ type will have the following stack from strong to weak:
1. Extraverted Feeling (Fe)
2. Introverted Intuition (Ni)
3. Extraverted Sensing (Se)
4. Introverted Thinking (Ti)
An ISTJ would have:
1. Introverted Sensing (Si)
2. Extraverted Thinking (Te)
3. Introverted Feeling (Fi)
4. Extraverted Intuition (Ne)

MBTI arguably began in 1923 with the English language publication of Carl Jung's book 'Psychological Types'. It was the theories in this book which became the inspiration for Katherine Briggs & Isobel Myers to create the MBTI model.
Jung's book introduces the concept of cognitive functions, which is the underlying framework of MBTI and the most critical and useful part of the theory. MBTI, is a very 'dumbed-down', simplified interpretation of the cognitive function model and if you do not understand the latter, you do not really understand the former (see most critics of MBTI!!).
