Cooking Up Windows with Chef Automate

Details

NOTE: This is the rescheduled September IT Pro session.

Open source has long been synonymous with Linux, but Chef has always treated Windows as a first-class citizen. Microsoft has worked extensively with Chef as a technology partner and customer.

Chef Automate, now available through the Azure Marketplace, is a collaborative platform for managing the state of your Linux, Unix and Windows infrastructure no matter where it is. Built on top of Chef and InSpec, it is the integration of configuration management, compliance, visualization and continuous integration/delivery.

This session will cover the open source foundations of Chef Automate and a demo finding a compliance violation, patching it, and deploying the fix for an application stack through Automate's CI/CD workflow.

Matt Ray is Chef's Sydney-based Manager and Solutions Architect for APJ. He has been active in the open source community for over two decades and has worked in a wide variety of startups and enterprises. He podcasts at SoftwareDefinedTalk.com, blogs at LeastResistance.net and is @mattray on Twitter, IRC, GitHub and too many Slacks.
