Full moon Bonfire!!!

This is an “under construction” event.

I have spoken to the Lock Master at Lock 24 about using their fire pit, for a bonfire on the evening of the August Full Moon, August 9th.

The Lock Master is able to sell firewood for our use. We are not able to reserve the fire pit, should there be overnight boats at the lock, it would be expected that we would share the fire pit.

What would strengthen our case for use of the fire pit, would be if several of us launched kayaks in daylight (say 5 pm) from the lock and paddled southbound to Lock 23, and then came back.

We would be “boaters”, and as such able to request use of the fire pit.

The lock master did explain that we may not use our own firewood, to limit the spread of pests that are decimating various wood species.

The lock master and I have not talked about limits on number of participants.

There are still moving pieces so this is an “exploratory” posting.
