Belief Systems pt 2 - Identity

"The strongest force in the human personality is the need to stay consistent in how we define ourselves." – Tony Robbins

Who do you think you are? Are you who you think you are? are you the sum total of who you think other people think you are?

It's an interesting question, we as a human race spend a lot of our lives defining who we are by both introspection and reflection, and also by cues from other people and experience in a seemingly continuous dance of analysis, exploration and error correction. It seems necessary at least to survive in a human culture to have an idea of our identity or a sense of self and how we fit in the world though having the wrong identity can lead to pain and ostracization and even dying to maintain or sense of identity, but on the other hand being nearly impervious to just about any external influence.

In this discussion we will be exploring some themes around Identity such as
- How are identities formed and can they be changed
-Can countries and communities or even global communities have identities
- what are the conditions or belief systems that hold identities in place or even send them out of kilter?
- what does the future hold in regards to our identity as a human race and is there hope for us?

We welcome you to come and put your views to our group on the validity and utility of critical thinking in an environment that respects the right of people to be heard with dignity in an endeavour to find the truth of relevant philosophical matters.
