What we’re about
It's hard to make new friends over 55. I created this group so that people will not have to do things alone. Various interests and activities. Movies, Board Games, Hikes, theater, Coffee houses
If you want to organize events, please let me know and I will give you permission to add to the calendar. The more ideas we have the more fun we will have.

- Feeling the sunshine splashing down us
- Smiles, smiles, and more smiles.
- More energy which translates to better job performance which potentially could lead to a job promotion. (No guarentees, don't bet the farm on it, but it could happen and that is the joy of walking, anything "could happen". Something I learned at Chip-N-Ales ;)
- Promotes that feeling of "everyone is looking at me" why? Mostly because we all stepped off 50,000 steps in a month and we all feel freaking fantastic! Science can back this up.
- If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then a walk every 6 days led by a charamatic, entertaining, young-ish event organizer won't be the the end of the world. I promise. (mostly).
- So many reasons to get out and take a walk! Meet new and interesting people.
- Hear things that you might not have known about, like flying reindeer or little green elf sitting on a shelf.
- Improved cardio, muscle tone, heart-rate, improved mental acuity.
- Fried eggs? Yup, your brain on crack! So put the crack pipe down, detox, and start walking. Walking releases feel-good neurochemicals like endorphins, which reduce pain and improve mood, and dopamine and serotonin, associated with pleasure and well-being. It also releases stress-related chemicals like epinephrine and norepinephrine (adrenaline) and hormones such as cortisol and growth hormone, while also producing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) to support brain health.
- And finally, walking helps support a positive outlook on life, all the wonderful people we get to interact with, share, bond, grow with. Walking promotes life as we know it. Take charge, put on thoses walking shoes on, drive over to Hadley and enjoy a friendly, social walk!
- (Hike) Summit House: J.A. Skinner State Park (.NET)Skinner State Park Main Entrance, Hadley, MA
9 am start time
Lets take a hike along the New England Trail!
Hiking experience or a sense of adventure would be helpful.Parking: 39 Old Mountain Road, Hadley
For much of the nineteenth century, the Mt. Holyoke summit was among the region's most popular destinations. First came artists, such as Thomas Cole, who painted a famous picture of the Connecticut River "Oxbow" in 1836. Writers were also inspired by the panorama of mountains, valley, fields, towns, river, and sky. Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Emily Dickinson were among the many writers who visited the summit. And now, brought to you from social 55 anyone who has the legs, the will power, or sense of adventure may experience the same breath taking views and ambiance!- Sturdy footwear, hiking poles might be helful.
- There will be a few scrambles which basically means we are actually hiking. Scrambles are tiny little outcrops of stone or ledge that we would need to maneuver either up or down on the trail.
- We stay on the trail.
- Approximately 1 hour to climb to top. (1.7 miles)
- 3.5 miles total.
- We will hike back down via halfway house and devils football. (mega-huge stone that fell from a volcano couple thousand or so years ago.)
Interesting History
Meet at the main yellow-gate. (please do not drive up the road) I believe there are some port-oh-potties near by. Parking is along the road.
