An introduction to Cyanide and Happiness.
Details
🎴 Joking Hazard — The Cyanide & Happiness Card Game
Joking Hazard is an adult party card game created by the makers of Cyanide & Happiness — the team at Explosm. It was released in 2016 after a massively successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised over $3 million USD, far exceeding its original goal.
🕹️ How the Game Works
The game is inspired by the Cyanide & Happiness webcomic’s signature three-panel format. Players take turns creating their own comics using cards that represent individual panels — each featuring dark, awkward, or hilarious scenarios typical of Cyanide & Happiness humor.
Here’s the basic flow:
Each round starts with one card placed face-up (the first panel).
Players each submit a card from their hand to continue the comic (the second panel).
The “judge” (a rotating role) then plays a random third panel or chooses one to complete the comic.
The judge decides which combination is funniest, and the winner keeps the comic as a point.
It’s kind of like Cards Against Humanity, but instead of building sentences, you’re building ridiculous and often offensive comic strips.
🧩 Expansions & Variants
Since its release, there have been several expansions and spin-offs, including:
Joking Hazard: Deck Enhancement #1, #2, #3, etc.
Trial by Trolley – a different party game by the same creators, based on the famous “trolley problem.”
Master Dater – another Cyanide & Happiness card game about terrible dating.
⚠️ Tone and Audience
Like the Cyanide & Happiness comics, the game is:
Meant for mature audiences (ages 17+)
Filled with dark, absurd, and adult humor
Best enjoyed with friends who don’t mind offensive or controversial jokes
