Hidden stairways, paths between fabulous homes, and a pedestrian bridge, all thru one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Portland. 4+ miles, lots of climbing! From the book, Portland Stair Walks,” by Laura O.Foster. Meet by the vacant grocery store (former Strohecher's) at 2855 SW Patton St. Parking: Across the street on Old Orchard Road or at the lot several hundred feet up Patton from the start.
About 5 miles out-and-back from the Holman Lane trailhead next to 3509 NW Raleigh St up to the Pittock Mansion on a lovely forested path.
There is a good amount of elevation gain (833 feet), but we take a moderate pace, and we usually stop for 15 to 20 minutes at the top to take in the views and chit chat. Optional lunch/snacks at Elephants Deli afterwards. Come hang out with us!
Adapted from “Portland Stair Walks” by Laura O. Foster: Hilly loop walk up to Council Crest Park and back from the Hillsdale Library in SW Portland. About 550' elevation over 5.2 miles. Neighborhood streets, trails in a mini-forest, and stairs.
Hilly 5 miles roundtrip down about 450' from the Hillsdale Library to Elephant's Deli on SW Corbett Ave. About 25 minutes for coffee break, then return to start, passing thru the Hillsdale Farmer's Market. NOTE: Sections of the hike are steep & hilly, and are not recommended for people who are new to hiking. Winter time now 10 AM
