Well we made it through so welcome to 2021 everyone - we're excited to announce our first session of the year focused on spatial visualisation with our mapping masterclass!

The line-up for the January 2021 edition includes:

  1. Getting started with the Icon Map: Alice Drummond (~ 25 mins)
    The Icon Map is a powerful mapping visual that allows us to display points, polylines and polygons altogether - by leveraging the MapBox custom tilesets we can provide really rich spatial context to our data - Alice will take us through getting started with the Icon Map, and answer your questions on how best to apply it!

  2. Mapbox API’s: Idris Syed (~25 mins):
    Idris will guide us through the Mapbox API, and show how you can automate your spatial dataflow using this feature.

  3. Developing interactive maps using Carto: Chandni Gupta (~ 25 mins)
    Chandni will take us through how to develop interactive maps with Carto, using a customised Mapbox basemap. She'll also show how we can then embed these maps into our websites to share with a wider audience. There will be an opportunity for 5 minutes' worth of questions for each presenter at the end of their sessions.

  1. We will have 15 minutes available for Q&A at the end of the session!!

Info on your presenters are below

Alice Drummond is co-founder of DiscoverEI and her passion is finding clever ways to process, analyse and share environmental data. Alice is heavily involved in the Power BI community, being a Microsoft MVP for the Data Platform. Drawing on her background working for over 9 years as environmental engineer specialising in surface water and groundwater modelling, Alice works collaboratively with government organisations to turn mountains of data into practical, useful, decision-guiding insights.

Idris Syed works in the Technology and Digital Innovation Team at the City of Melbourne, and is a seasoned BI consultant with 13 years of experience working for government and private organizations. He is passionate about Microsoft BI/Cloud technologies with a proficiency in visualising data using Power BI, DAX and Power Query.

Chandni Gupta works as a Spatial Analyst at Mosaic Insights, and has completed a Master’s in Data Science. She has a real passion for coding.
