About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.
See you at the movies!

The Brood at AS220 Black Box
AS220 Black Box Theater, 95 Empire Street, Providence, RI, US"Oh it's February, maybe Sean will play a cute movie for love month." Well, um, sorry. We're back at AS220 and this time playing David Cronenberg's The Brood from 1979!
In The Brood, a man tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist’s therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, while a series of brutal attacks committed by a brood of mutant children coincides with the husband’s investigation.
Join us on Wednesday, February 11th for a 7:00pm screening of The Brood at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link up as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.

Wuthering Heights and Track 15
Providence Place Cinemas 16, 10 Providence Place, Providence, RI, USIt's been forever since we've seen a movie at Providence Place. We saw Bugonia at Showcase Warwick in November and that was a good experience. I'm curious to see how the new Apple theater will be for Movie Club in comparison. So like I said, we're heading to Apple Cinemas Providence to see the new Emerald Fennell adaptation of Wuthering Heights. (I'm not putting the quotes around it!)
Wuthering Heights is a novel published by Emily Brontë in 1847. The trailers for this are making it seem like a HOT, STEAMY period romance. But as anyone who's read the book knows, these characters are emotional terrorists. My Goodreads log says: "This book is guzzling tequila and fighting with your ex (and your family and your friends and your co-workers and and and)." So we'll see! But regardless, it should be an interesting time.
Join us on Sunday, February 15th for the 3:00pm showing of Wuthering Heights at Apple Cinemas Providence. Afterwards, for anyone interested, we'll go to Track 15 for post-movie dinner.
Meet by the group of tables across from the concession stand at 2:45pm. We'll head into the theater when it starts at 3:00pm and meet outside the door when it's over to reconnect. Feel free to sit wherever you want inside the theater. Drop a comment if you have any questions!

Movie Club Mixer at The Royal Bobcat
The Royal Bobcat, 422 Atwells ave, Providence, RI, USDon't worry, don't worry, there are still two movie-related events to be announced for February. Just announcing the mixer early. Last January we had a mixer at The Royal Bobcat, and it was such a fun time. Don't believe me? Check out these photos from that event (password: pvdmovieclub). So, what a perfect time to revisit this great place!
The mixer will start at 6:30pm at The Royal Bobcat on Sunday, February 22nd. It'll go on as long as people are around, though the official end time will be 9:30pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. In addition to a bevy of delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, The Royal Bobcat also has a cajun food menu called Sadie's On The Bayou.
The mixers are a great way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure.
See you there!
