Mushroom Foray - Spring 2025

To all who have signed up with the hopes of attending a mushroom foray this Saturday, 5/24: This is Ian, of Rocky Mountain Wild Mushrooms.

I am writing to you all because I have decided to postpone our mushroom outing. This saddens me, as this will be the second week in a row that I have had to make this decision. Mushrooms are about as unpredictable as every day life, and these last two weeks have been a lesson for me in both of these unpredictabilities. On Saturday, May 17th, I was intending to bring a group of folks out in the foothills to look for fungi. My search for a good location turned up with not much of anything in time for the outing. So I had to call it off. This week, I had planned to run a foray this Saturday, May 24th. We had great weather and good moisture last week which seemed to be leading up to things falling into place. I was really hoping to make-up for the week prior and imagine that some folks who signed up for the 17th also signed up for this coming weekend.

While last week things fell through partially because of the very hot weather combined with not quite enough rain… This week turned out to be some personal issues in the form of last minute car problems.
I’m sure that some of you may be frustrated with what seems like a somewhat last minute decision, and for that I would like to sincerely apologize. I am well aware that making plans to attend an event like this is often a decision within itself, so to cancel on a weekend makes for a last minute rush in an attempt to find something else and make other plans, etc. The overall intentions of these forays being run through Rocky Mtn. Wild Mushrooms, is to offer a well rounded class that does not fall short in any regard. It is for this reason, that the decision to postpone has been made. That all being said, I implore folks not to lose hope and please continue to sign up for our forays. The current intention is to move the one planned for this coming Saturday into next weekend, yet again. I will be working with the lovely staff at PCD to try to make this happen for everyone. As I have expressed, mushrooms are very hard to predict. Based on the current forecast and timing of things, it is looking like we could make up for these past two weekends with a very fruitful excursion.
