A film of experiences in Japan, shown outdoors in an historic art decor cinema
Details
Live the challenges and rewards of an American taking on an unusual role within a family structure in Japan. This could be your insight to different social values and professions in that country. If you would like a in depth introduction, try reading the book/film "fear and trembling" by Amelie Nothomb about her experiences, at times highly amusing, of Japanese culture in the working environment. After the show you can reflect whether such ideas and values could ever take root in Australia.
The Arts festival brochure notes follow:
RENTAL FAMILY – An American actor in Tokyo struggling to find purpose lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese "rental family" agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. He rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the beauty of human connection.

Bus 107 stop at Palmerston street/IONA is a five minute walk or 14 minutes from Mosman Park station/ bus stop.
A novelty of this event is that you will be issued with remote headphones which are provided so as not to create disturbance to the neighbours, and which give you personal control to the acoustics. Very handy..

If you want to start the evening with a Japanese meal instead of the pizzas, then there is the Wok and Roll dine in just opposite the cinema, you could even have a take away to eat in the park next to the cinema. Make an evening of it.
There is also a plaque describing the history of the building and the surroundings in the roadway near the entrance.
