Welcome to our March Python WA meetup!
We welcome Python enthusiasts of all skill levels. We'll be starting off with food and beverages at 5:30 pm, with talks commencing at 6pm.

Talk 1: The Evolution of Python Package Management
by Ben Fitzhardinge

A close look at some of the history of Python package management, and how it has evolved over the decades from easy_install to UV, why you should use a dependency manager and where python packaging may be going in the future.

Ben Fitzhardinge is the lead organiser of Python WA, works for BHP and sails boats. He's been working with Python and Django since 2007, has taught Django with Django Girls Melbourne and with She Codes Perth & Sydney.

Talk 2: Elections through Python - What we can learn about our society from voting data
by Andrew Owens

Thanks to the AEC and WAEC, we have a wealth of suburb level data available about how people vote. While some people certainly vote on issues and personalities, and in a narrow contest this often decides who wins and who loses, very often, the vote is linked to demographic or geographic characteristics. Python, with visualisation libraries or links to other tools, is extremely helpful in turning an inscrutable pile of numbers into something much more interesting.

Andrew is a sessional academic at Curtin University, teaching computing and statistics to first year students whilst completing his own Data Science studies. He has previously taught Professional year students with the Australian Computer Society, taken on consulting roles, and has experience as a Database developer
