Hi, and welcome to our November Python Meetup!

We're a community of Python enthusiasts who enjoy learning, sharing knowledge, and helping grow the Python ecosystem. Whether you're writing your first lines of code or you're an experienced developer building the tools others rely on every day, you'll find a place here.

Exploring human-designed inputs of frontier language models
by Craig Peters

When engineers choose a language model, they inherit a set of human decisions. Someone has already selected the data, defined the training objectives, chosen the architecture, and specified which behaviours to encourage.
This lecture separates those design decisions from their computational implementation. On the left: what humans specify. On the right: how the machinery implements it.
Our focus is the left side: human-centric design. Think of this as a design discipline for language-model systems, much as object-oriented design is a discipline for structuring software. We’ll explore how to define the system’s purpose, organise its knowledge and context, assign responsibilities, and establish constraints, with user needs and intended outcomes guiding those decisions.

Craig is a Principal at GRABiT Labs with 20 years steering high-stakes portfolios, having moved from the trading floors of Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, and HSBC to venture-building in Defence, Life Sciences, Shallow Tech, and mission-driven Social Enterprises. His journey stretches across the USA, Europe, and APAC and blends big-bank rigor, startup velocity - cross-sector pattern-matching you can’t pick up from any single domain.
