Margie (Margaret Kaye) - Awareness Through Movement Meditation

Details

Margie (Margaret Kaye) is back by popular demand!

The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education is based on the principle of neuro-plasticity. This is the ability of the brain to change itself. In this session we will explore a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, incorporating gentle movement and directed attention to inform our sensory experiences, including the way we move.

Using slow, mindful movements we can achieve powerful effects in terms of strength, flexibility, and holistic integration of body and mind. They potentially tie directly into functional movements of daily life, such as walking efficiently, safely getting up and down, and improving one's posture in sitting or standing. (This could be considered a preparatory lesson for dancing!)
The lesson for this meditation practice will be all about grounding! Feeling grounded and actually finding ways to get there.

Once we discover (or rediscover) our unconscious patterns, they become conscious behaviours, and this gives us more choices. As you attend to the improving quality of movement, unnecessary muscular tensions throughout the body can reorganize and release so we move more efficiently.

And with this new conscious awareness, we can increase our ease and range of motion, and improve movement quality by integrating our body, mind, and psyche.

Margie has been teaching Feldenkrais (which she calls "movement meditation") for over 30 years. She teaches movement classes, runs individual sessions, and makes occasional guest appearances on retreats as well.
Over the years Margie has taught lessons for the general public, performers including actors, musicians and dancers in multiple tertiary institutions. And she has run workshops in corporate contexts around personal and workplace ergonomics. Margie has also conducted walking and running workshops.

PS. Margie has multiple recordings: Running Easy, Sitting Easy and Sleep Easy. And when you come along to this evenings session, you'll get the last one for free!

Afterwards, you're welcome to join us for dinner, drinks and a chat at the East Village Hotel.

Location
Darlinghurst Community Space, Rear of 277 Bourke Street (entrance via Berwick Lane), Darlinghurst.

About us
We are a queer inclusive meditation group offering different meditations every Monday evening followed by dinner at the Lord Roberts Hotel. Everyone is welcome!

We gather from 6:15pm onwards, and start at 6:30pm, and conclude at approximately 7:30pm.

We usually attract around 25 to 40 people every session (through Facebook, Meetup, eMail and word of mouth).

Please RSVP, so we can look out for you, or just turn up on the night if you prefer.

After the meditation, you are invited to join us at the nearby East Village Hotel for dinner or drinks. If you just want to come for a chat and mingle with everyone you are welcome to do so!

Donation
This group is run 100% by volunteers and none of our guest speakers are paid to lead our meditations. As such we are always looking for more volunteers to serve our community and continue the amazing work of sustaining this wonderfully unique group. Please reach out to us digitally or on the night if you are interested.

This not for profit organisation has only been able to continue with your kind donations. We have overheads including cost of venue hire and insurance as well as advertising.

You can now donate through PAYID which is 45 788 728 326. This is our ABN number. Otherwise we accept cash and EFTPOS donations on the night at a suggestion of 5-10 dollars per person each week.

If you would like to lead a meditation or know someone who would be interested please kindly let us know by sending us a message on meetup.
