MARCH - Sports Analytics: Surprises In Modelling AFL, mostly with R (Tony Corke)

Details
We look forward to seeing you at our March meeting! .
Talk Outline: By day Tony builds statistical models for and consults to organisations on the practicalities and technicalities of analytics as a business discipline.
About our speaker: Tony Corke is a long-time R fanatic and sports-lover who found a way to combine these two obsessions eight years ago at the suggestion of some friends. Since then his weekends and nights, especially during the football season, have rarely been spent away from a laptop. He blogs about his analyses at http://www.matterofstats.com .
In his talk he’ll reveal some of the most surprising things he’s discovered while
modelling AFL data, along the way revealing some of his favourite charts and
analyses, and the R packages and code that produced them. He’ll also reflect
on what the modelling of AFL data has taught him about modelling in general.
Other details: Arrive from 5:45pm for a 6pm talk. Afterwards we will move on to a nearby pub for networking opportunities.
