Moonlight night walk to Chiver's Pond

Details

Hello night owls,
This is a moonlight night walk. If the weather looks bad, we can do this the evening before, Wednesday July 9.
The Rockingham Rail Trail is flat, hardly any ruts, rocks, roots or uneven surfaces. But don't expect it to be like a paved surface.
Chivers Pond, also called Emerson's or Paterson's Mill, ground is fairly good also, a little hilly. Be prepared for a slight dip or uneven surface. Move slowly and lift the toe box of your footwear when stepping (dorsiflexion). Watch people walking in front of you to see how they react to the ground. Wear sturdy footwear. Don't follow too close. If you encounter a slight unexpected dip or problem with the ground, motion with your arm to alert people behind you. Also pay attention to those in front of you.
If this goes well, we'll try a bigger moonlight walk in the future.
The parking area is off Depot Road, facing the rail trail. It is a large parking area. Please car pool if possible.
Chivers Pond is a nice area to walk around. It has stone work, groomed open areas and one pond has a dam. It's used as a sanctuary, for yoga and celebrations.
Many people who attend night walks use flashlights most or all the time. That screws up our night vision. The time to use artificial light on these hikes is when you drop something and can't find it or we have an emergency. If you're going to use a light, alert the others so they don't look to the light direction. Bring a small light. If you turn a light on, aim it toward the ground. Use of headlamps as a lone individual, although great for camping use, interferes with others night vision. If you have issues seeing at night, talk to me before signing up. Once you acclimate to natural night light, you should see well enough for safe walking. This is an easy, short walk. This should last 2 hours, but it depends on how much time we spend at the pond area.
