What we’re about
Covering Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties
Looking to purchase your first rental property in Oakland, Macomb or Wayne counties? Or your 10th? Or your hundredth? Or rather do flips than own rental property? Or are you a property wholesaler or property manager? Want to network with experienced investors? Then you'll fit right in our non-profit association. Established in 1981, we're one of Michigan's premier real estate investor associations. Our membership prides itself on sharing information in an open manner at dinner speaker meetings, subgroup meetings and through educational real estate investment classes offered through our association. Since we're an organization run by volunteers, our only game plan is to ensure you get the most from your attendance at our many events. So we encourage you to drop by and check out one of our upcoming events.

See all- REIA of Oakland Mtg. Aug 14 - Tenant ScreeningTroy Community Center, Troy, MI
Monthly General Meeting Topic: Tenant Screening in a Changing Market - Section 8 Shifts, ESA Rules & Proven Placement Strategies
Join us for the next REIA of Oakland meeting, where Erika Farley, our legislative lobbyist, will kick off the evening with a crucial update on current Section 8 funding transitions, timelines, and what they mean for landlords across the state. If you work with voucher tenants—or are considering it—this is information you can’t afford to miss.
Next, Monique Burns will break down her process for interviewing and screening Section 8 applicants, sharing real-world strategies that help uncover red flags and set expectations from the very first intake call.
We’ll also hear from Tara Roberts, a Michigan-based property manager and owner of Modern Property Management, who will explain how she conducts thorough background checks and navigates the often-confusing regulations around Emotional Support Animals (ESAs).
Whether you're managing one unit or one hundred, this meeting will equip you with up-to-date tools to confidently place tenants, stay compliant, and protect your investment.
