- Urban Gravel RideSierra Vista Park, Reno, NV
This ride is in conjunction with the Sierra Vista Bike Festival and begins and ends at the park on Beaumont where the festival is taking place. We begin before the festival officially begins but will end while the festival is in full swing.
This urban gravel mixed terrain route features a bit of everything, including paved road, gravel, dirt singletrack, dirt flow trail and bike path sections. The ride is best suited for gravel bikes due to connecting paved road sections however lighter cross country style mountain bikes will also work. Riders should have prior on road and off road cycling experience in order to participate in this ride. Note that the off road sections of this ride are gravel bike friendly, however as with nearly all off road cycling, there are some areas of loose gravel, embedded and loose rocks or other challenges.
We will begin the ride at the Sierra Vista Bike Park. Almost immediately, we are on the dirt singletrack with the Sierra Vista Connector Trail. We will be heading towards Keystone Canyon but not before we ride a series of roads and bike paths. At Keystone Canyon we ride several steep but short switchbacks to traverse over to the bottom section of the Reno Vista Trail. We will then use the tunnel under McCarren emerging into Ranch San Rafael Park. Leaving RSRP, we head downtown where we use Riverside Dr and Hunter Lake Dr to work our way up to the Steamboat Ditch Trail. We head west on SDT with one short detour on the road until we exit SDT on singletrack down to the Mayberry Park Area. We head up to West 4th St for the transfer section to Mogul. From Mogul, we use a dirt path paved access road to climb up to Somersett. After a short ride past the Somersett village area, we climb up through a neighborhood to a west side access to the Sierra Vista Bike Park. We finish off the ride with the lower SVBP singletrack and DG path climb back to parking lot where the bike festival will be underway.
