Create and publish your personal website with Blogdown
Details
Having a personal website to show your projects and experiences is an easy way to stand out in a crowd of job applications.
At our event this month, R-Ladies Melbourne organiser Danyang Dai will give a workshop demonstrating how to create and publish a website using Blogdown in R! And we are excited to announce that this workshop will be given in person!!
Danyang's workshop is designed for beginners, and does not require prior experience in web languages such as HTML, CSS or JavaScript - only a bit of R Markdown is needed! She will guide you through creating the website from beginning to end, and at the completion of the workshop we will show you how to publish your website online with Netlify, so that anyone can visit your new personal site.
Danyang is a committee member of R-Ladies Melbourne who graduated from Melbourne Uni with a Master's degree in Applied Econometrics. She is a self-taught programmer and is passionate about programming in R.
Danyang created her first personal website using Blogdown in 2018 before she know how to program in any language. She is particularly passionate about using R to visualise and present data using R Markdown. Danyang has taught R programming workshops at Monash Uni for the Data Visualisation and Analytics course. She is now pursuing data analytic careers in Melbourne.
What to bring:
As this is a WORKSHOP, please bring your laptop with RStudio and the Blogdown package installed (https://github.com/rstudio/blogdown). This is enough to set up a website locally, but if you'd like to publish the website for all to see you will also need a GitHub account.
This workshop will be held in PERSON, and will not be streamed online. It will only be available for 35 people, so be sure to register to attend!
This event will be hosted by our fantastic sponsor Nous Group. Please arrive from 5:30pm, the workshop will start at 6pm sharp! Pizza and drinks will be provided for the evening.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our first in person event in over a year!
