How to do analysis for others without going crazy: My mistakes in consulting

Details

Hi everyone!

This month we are excited to host Dr. Taya Collyer, who will be giving a seminar on consulting and collaborating: How to do analysis without going crazy: My mistakes in consulting & collaborating

There is plenty of advice for 'statistical consultants' about how to improve practice and engament with clients. But not all of us are 'consultants', and there are a broad range of challenges (and power dynamics) which can accompany being the analysis person on a collaborative project. In this talk Taya will summarise the key lessons she has taken from nearly a decade of doing analysis for others, highlighting practical ways to make life easy for yourself and to maximise the benefit to your own career trajectory.

Dr. Taya Collyer is a biostatistician and public health researcher. Taya holds degrees in Economics, Biomedical science and Biostatistics, and a PhD from the university of Edinburgh, Scotland. Taya's statistical training centred around the design, conduct and analysis of very large Randomised Controlled Trials, and she began her career at the ASPREE Trial, one of Australia's largest ever RCTs of community-dwelling participants.

Taya is currently based at Monash University's Peninsula Clinical School, providing statistical support to the hospital-based academic unit, to clinicians within the health service, and to the federally-funded National Centre for Healthy Ageing, located on site. Taya most enjoys sharing joy in statistics with new audiences, and helping clinicians and researchers to get the most from their precious datasets.

This will be an online event. Please connect to the zoom session at 5:30pm on March 7th.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the event!
