About us
The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) is a community of both non-technical and technical members who are passionate and enthusiastic about the recent advancements in generative AI tools. This group is focused on exploring and discussing the latest developments in AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT, DALL-E, Midjourney, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Google’s Gemini. We will also look at the impact of these tools on business, education, workplace, law, entrepreneurship and society in general.
The group is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all individuals who have an interest in AI and its applications. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, RMAIIG aims to provide a platform for learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating with like-minded people.
Our events will host speakers who are experts in some aspect of AI and able to communicate with a broad audience of non-technical users. You will be able to stay ahead of the curve on fast-moving developments in the field and get your questions answered.

AI Robotics: AI in the Physical World
Ann and H.J. Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences, 3775 Discovery Dr., BOULDER, CO, USThe Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) will host an in-person meeting in Boulder on Tuesday, November 17th, at 5:45 pm MT on “AI Robotics”
What happens when artificial intelligence moves beyond the screen and into the physical world?
At this meeting, we'll explore the rapidly evolving world of AI robotics, where advances in AI are giving robots remarkable new abilities to see, understand, communicate, and interact with people and their surroundings.
From humanoid robots and robot dogs to autonomous machines, AI is transforming what robots can do and bringing us closer to a future where intelligent machines become part of everyday life.
We'll bring together robotics companies, researchers, engineers, and innovators for an evening of live demonstrations, hands-on interaction, and presentations showcasing the latest advances in AI robotics.
How close are we to truly useful humanoid robots? What can today's robots actually do? And how will intelligent machines change the way we live and work?
Join us for an exciting evening of AI robotics, featuring live robot demonstrations, fascinating presentations, networking, and free pizza!

Tuesday, November 17th
Showcase & Robot Demos: 5:45–7:15 PM (free pizza sponsored by Drive Capital)
Presentations: 7:15–8:45 PM
Parking: https://www.rmaiig.org/parkingWe will start off with Katy Patterson and Joel Tonyan who will share findings from a study of Ami, a social humanoid robot from Engineered Arts that joined a university classroom and interacted with students in a live academic setting. They will explore student responses to Ami, lessons learned, and what these real-world interactions mean for the design and future of social humanoid robots.
Joel Tonyan is the Director of User Experience and an Associate Professor at the UCCS Kraemer Family Library. An AI enthusiast, he manages the library’s two Ami humanoid robots and has brought them to UCCS classes, Colorado Springs-area high schools, and community events, giving many people their first chance to interact with a humanoid robot.
Katy Patterson is a doctoral student in Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, specializing in human-robot interaction. Her research examines the role of social robots in supporting teaching and learning.
Additional presenters to be announced shortly!
Special thanks to Bobby Hodgkinson for arranging the meeting space!
