Photographing the 611 Steam Engine in Goshen, VA
Details
We will get up close to the legendary 611 as it begins its morning journey to Staunton and back. Meet at Victoria Station (340 Victoria Lane, Goshen, VA 24439) at 8:15 am beside the two diesel locomotives at the opposite end of the train from the 611; you will see them as you enter the parking lot. They will pull the train from its spur line to the mainline several blocks away; once on the main track, the 611 will be in front. You may walk right up to the 611 for photos, purchase souvenirs and food and find ample restrooms and benches at the station, which is comprised of tents. The train is scheduled to leave at 9:00 am. Good photo locations as it is moving include the crossing on Victoria Lane and along Maury River Road from the Goshen Fire House to the railroad crossings near the Goshen Grocery. Prepare for slow traffic, huge crowds and lots of other photographers. The train makes another run at 2:30.
