Rosicrucians in Asheville

In this teleconference, Grand Master Julie Scott will lead us in exploring some of the spiritual beliefs and practices of the ancient Egyptians, including their view of the soul, the nature of being, and the magical realm of the Duat. We’ll meet Isis, Queen of the Universe; Ma’at, the goddess of order; Anubis, the Conductor of the Initiates, and Thoth, the Keeper of the Mysteries, and will view some of the related artifacts from the remarkable collection of the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.

The November 1972 issue of the Rosicrucian Digest included an article entitled “Mystic Poetry” by Peter Bowden. We will follow up on that article and consider how our mystical experience though ineffable is nevertheless eminently worth describing and sharing through various forms of creative expression. We will consider poetry in its wide-ranging forms for the conveyance of mystical experience and the emulation of the Cosmic. The highly influential philosopher Plato is one of the ancient Greek thinkers who we study as part of the Rosicrucian teachings. In sensitively reading and reflecting on Plato’s writings there are passages suggestive of mystical realization, and even indicative of the central formative importance for us of mystical experience and initiation. We will consider those texts and Plato’s and our own relationship to mysticism.
