Sunday 25 May Wiccup 15.5 Mile Walk

Please note that very few members of this group are on SWAG Meetup hence there will be few attendees listed here

The long walk will be a 15.5 mile circular walk starting from Widdup Reservoir car park.

Grade B/C following waymarked paths and bridleways. The route is quite undulating, crossing 276 contour lines which corresponds to 1380 metres (4527 feet) of ascent/descent.

Please meet at Brooklands in time to leave for 9.00 am or at the start point at 10.15 am.

The directions are as follows:

We will meet at Widdup Reservoir Car Park at 10.15 am, nearest post code HX7 7AU
Do Not rely on the post code for navigation as being a remote area, this is some distance from the car park. As far as I can tell there isn’t a post code that covers the car park.

1. From Sale head anti clockwise around the M60 (past the Trafford Centre).
2. Continue onto the M62 and leave at junction 21
3. At the first roundabout take the second exit, and the second roundabout take the first exit and at the third roundabout take the first exit, following A640 North (Milnrow).
4. After 500 metres mile turn right at the traffic lights on to Bridge Street B6225 following the brown signs to Hollingworth Lake
5. Continue following the signs to Hollingworth Lake
6. Pass Hollingworth Lake and continue to Littleborough.
7. In Littleborough turn left under the railway bridge Rochdale A58/ Todmorden A6033.
8. Immediately after the railway bridge turn right at the lights onto A6033 Todmorden
9. Continue for approx 5.5 miles. In the centre of Todmorden turn right onto the A646 towards Halifax and Hebden Bridge.
10. On entering Hebden bridge bear left at the traffic lights up Heptonstall Road (steep hill) The Fox and Goose pub is on the left by the traffic lights.
11. Don’t take the left fork into Heptonstall village, bear right and stay on the main road(Lee Woods Road)
12. After approx 1.5 miles you will pass through Slack. On leaving Slack turn right towards Widdup and Colne. Follow this for 4.5 miles and watch out for Widdup Reservoir Car Park on the left. It is not clearly signposted, but if you pass the reservoir you have gone too far.
