Salem Poetry Project Featuring Listen to the People

This evening we will present “Listen to the People” a long poem for multiple voices by Steven Vincent Benet. Written in early 1941 it discusses American response to Totalitarianism. Benet was an American poet, short story writer and novelist. He won the Pulitzer prize for his book length narrative poem about the American Civil War, John Brown’s Body. He also won the award for his collections of short stories The Devil and Daniel Webster and the Water of Babylon.
"Listen to the People" will be read by Mike Shuler, Rebecca Ambrose, Charles K Carter, Laura Janssen and Marc Janssen.
The Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
