What we’re about
We're a group of guitarists and luthiers, professionals as well as amateurs, of all ages and levels, who enjoy getting together, playing for one another informally, meeting for open mics and occasionally going to concerts together. We welcome acoustic guitarists who play any music in fingerpicking style.

See all- San Francisco Mandolin Octet in Piedmont: "Originals"Piedmont Center of the Arts, Piedmont, CA
A celebration of music composed specifically for mandolin ensemble, led by virtuoso Achille Bocus and featuring members of the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra.
This program showcases works by Italian virtuoso Raffaele Calace—whose lyrical and technically dazzling pieces helped define the classical mandolin tradition—bringing to life the distinct sound of an eight-piece ensemble rarely heard in today's concert halls. From Calace's Serenata Gaia and Sogno to works by Ballerini, Kok, and more, the Octet invites listeners into a musical world where the mandolin takes center stage. The result? Original music + original instruments = an original experience.
About the San Francisco Mandolin Octet
The San Francisco Mandolin Octet is an offshoot of the larger San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra, which has performed to appreciative audiences at Piedmont Center for the Arts annually since 2017. The ensemble plays a combination of classical orchestral pieces transcribed for mandolins, mandolas, and guitars, as well as a selection of more popular and contemporary pieces.
Achille Bocus, Musical Director and Mandolin Soloist
Raised in Milan, Italy, Achille Bocus studied mandolin, double bass, electric bass, composition, and conducting. Following his studies, he played double bass with some of the finest symphonic, operatic, and chamber music orchestras in Italy, performing throughout Europe. From 2005-2008, he was conductor of the Orchestra a Plettro Città di Milano. In 2009, Achille moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he began teaching mandolin to students throughout the region with his "Il Tremolo" method and took up the baton for the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra.
