The big hit at Venice is finally here in Chicago. No Other Choice is a South Korean satirical black comedy-thriller that is co-written and directed by Park Chan-wook.
The film stars Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min and Yeom Hye-ran. The screenplay is based on The Ax by Donald Westlake.
It is the second film adaptation of the novel, after the 2005 French-language feature The Axe directed by Costa-Gavras.
When a successful businessman loses his position, he resorts to a bizarre plan. Further synopsis is withheld in the interests of preserving the maximum enjoyment for the moviegoer.
No Other Choice has its world premiere in the main competition of the Venice International Film Festival last August, where it was greeted with thunderous acclaim.
It is nominated for three Golden Globes--Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film and Byung-hun for Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy.
It is also selected as the South Korean entry for the Best International Feature Film for this year's Academy Awards.
The movie boasts a 99 at Rotten Tomatoes.
