About us
Hi there! Welcome to the group :-) This group is part of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - for walking/hillwalking events. The other part of the group is for climbing events and if you're interested in that, please join https://www.meetup.com/scottish-hillwalkers/
We're a friendly group that was founded in 2008 to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so.
We organise a wide range of walks year round including single Munros, multiple Munros, scrambling over ridges, weekends away and a selection of low level longer walks, pub walks and summer evening walks..
These shouldn't be considered "led walks" with a professional guide. Think of it more as going walking with a group of friends (and while you may not be friends with everyone at the start of the walk, you will be by the end of it!). However, everyone has to take responsibility for themselves as well as for each other, and everyone has a role to play (be it offering lifts to the start, helping with the navigation on the walk or bringing the jaffa cakes!)
The organiser of a walk or event is the point of contact for the walk. Organisers do not lead walks and are not responsible for others or instructing them. Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this.
The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com.
If you have some ideas for walks and activities or perhaps once you have been on a few events, would like to get involved in organising one, please send us a message via Mountain Goat's Meetup profile.
Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon,
Mountain Goat

Hard: Ben Alder 2, Bike and Hike
Dalwhinnie Petrol Station PH19 1AD, 10 Ben Alder road, Dalwhinnie, GBBen Alder and its munro neighbour Beinn Bheoil. A remote and very strenuous bike and hike starting from Dalwhinnie, for hill-fit walkers only. Ben Alder dominates the central highlands, the view of the mountain is far finer from the north/Culra bothy site than from walking in from the south west/Corrour. This walk is four weeks after the Ben Alder 4 and so hopefully enough resting time lol.

Hard: Maoile Lunndaidh, Bike and Hike
Craig A890, A890 layby, Achnashellach, GBThe single munro Maoile Lunndaidh from just off the A890 main road at Craig, Achneshellach. A remote and strenuous bike and hike, for hill-fit walkers only.
Maoile is one of the least climbed munros. It's remote with a good track in to cycle but one of its problems is that the walk starts (at the tiny plantation in the main photo) as a bog lovers dream with very rough and undulating, boggy ground to get near its two tops (see walk descn). Per the walk highlands route start (or end), there's no path or shoulder/ridge to steadily make progress, lots of small boggy rises and dips instead, until a path has eventually been formed near the summit. After both tops visited might come back same way as it's quicker than completing the walk highlands loop. I've only done it once before and that was in clag and so ignore lol the negativity, the summit viewpoint is - meant to be great, Coulins, Llurgh mhor and Sheasgaich etc nearby and torridon.
Meeting point https://maps.app.goo.gl/mzDiiqtmxZCpkiWn6 If the car park is full - there's a large lay-by on the other side of the main road 300m to the east, where we'll meet instead.
I'm staying in Garve on the sunday after walk and on the monday night. Planning to do a walk or bike/ hike on the monday also before returning home.
Weather dependent. For any queries on the day 07901 987769.
