“Transform your conversations, transform your culture”

Purpose
Culture is the cornerstone of any transformation and conversation is the way that culture emerges from people interactions, therefore we say that if you transform your conversations you can transform your culture.

The purpose of this session is to make the group aware of how their biases are evident in the conversations they have.

Agile Conversations Pedagogy

  • Summarise the book Agile Conversations and its message in 5 slides (15 mins)

Practice

  • Exercise 1: record your conversation
  • Split into pairs (Zoom breakout room?) and each take a piece of paper, line down the middle and on the right hand side you will annotate what was said, on the left hand side you will annotate how you felt

Demonstrate on screen (requires facilitator and partner) - 5 mins

Assign pairs

  • Each pair gets a topic to discuss - or they can choose their own topic if they prefer
  • Practice conversation and recording
  • Compare notes
  • What did they learn?
    (total 10 mins)

Rejoin main session

  • Pick 5 pairs to describe what they learnt
    5 mins

  • Talk about 5 types of conversation:
  • Trust Conversation
  • Fear Conversation
  • Why Conversation
  • Commitment Conversation
  • Accountability Conversation
    10 mins

Practice

  • Exercise 2: reverse roles
  • Repeat exercise 1 but with roles reversed and see how you could improve the conversation

15 mins
Summarise

  • What did we learDid anyone manage to transform their conversation from the first example to the second?
    5 mins

Total = 60 mins
