About us
# What is SecTalks Brisbane?
SecTalks Brisbane is a non-profit session for technical security talks, and hands-on challenges. A forum to discuss technical (in)security stuff and share our thoughts. SecTalks Brisbane is held every month.
# What happens at a SecTalks Brisbane?
We have a monthly catch-up where someone presents on something interesting (sometimes VERY interesting!). We also have a monthly challenge that everyone gets their hands on. SecTalks Brisbane is community focused, open to beginners and experts alike, and vendor-pitch free. Those that are interested in learning infosec, hacking, computer security, and Capture the Flag challenges (and similar) are encouraged to attend.
# How SecTalks is organised?
It is 100% organic voluntary effort. Something that we feel we need to have. People in SecTalks are quite passionate and open for new ideas and discussion. We have people with different backgrounds.
# This is super cool, I wanna join SecTalks!
Sure! We always like to get more awesome people in.
# But I am new to security and want to learn, can I still join?
SecTalks is always open to anyone who is keen to learn infosec. Those that are interested in learning infosec, hacking, computer security, and Capture the Flag challenges (and similar) are encouraged to attend. We have a few places in each session for newcomers and we will team you up with others with more experience, so you can learn.

- Each talk should fall within 5 minutes you may be shorter but we ask you to wrap up without going too long over.
- Make sure you pick a single thing to talk about and keep your number of slides low.
- We highly encourage first-time speakers. This is a great chance to practice speaking or try out presenting on a new topic.
Topics we would like to see:
- Horror stories from a blue/red team and what you learned.
- Specific vulnerability exploitation and remediation.
- Introduction to a lesser-known open-source project or tool.
For each topic please include an introduction to yourself at the start and a key takeaway at the end.
Please keep names out of your talk where possible. This is a chance for us to learn from mistakes not throw shade. For more information refer to our Code of Conduct.Other Event Info:
